This course emphasizes your relationship with your dog and how to teach them using a cognitive approach. It is like two courses in one.

Trusting relationships are crucial to your dogs happiness and lay the groundwork to live comfortably in a human world. We will discuss why healthy relationships are so important for your dog as well as the need for secure attachments. Having dependable, safe and trusting relationships will assist your dog in all aspects of his life, and lay the groundwork for a cognitively successful dog

At first we focus on the relationship between the dog and their person. We cover the emotional needs of the dog and how to develop a secure attachment with the dogs you share your life with. Once the relationship is established we learn how to use a cognitive approach to teaching our dogs.

In this course, you will learn about the latest research into canine cognition, how dogs think, function and learn. You will learn the difference between traditional behavioral based training and the cognitive approach, and how to melt them together to have a successful training program for your dog.

You will learn how to teach dogs using a cognitive approach, included are several cognitive exercises such as mimicking and other social learning exercises that you and your dog will find fun and easy. We will learn how to teach dogs to discriminate between colors, identify shapes and the names of items. Other skills you will be able to teach your dog include how to answer yes and no questions, as well as how to communicate his needs and desires. You will also learn how to teach your dog left and right, up and down, another opposites.

We will also discuss the function of the dog and how they see the world, giving you insight into how to develop a confident thinking dog.

You will study at your own pace, and have lifetime access to the course.

Judy Luther

Judy Luther, creator of Trust Centered Training™, is regarded with respect and is well known, across the country and abroad, for her skill and knowledge as a behavior consultant and training instructor. Based in Missouri, United States, Judy has provided training services for over 27 years, helping pet parents and their dogs. Her skill and experience includes a variety of species, both domestic and exotic.


Judy's experience is valued as she brings knowledge and understanding through her very popular private training business, Dog Star Training, LLC., where she teaches a wide range of dog-related classes, in addition to providing private training and consultation. She is a highly sought after speaker, evaluator, volunteer, and legal advisor. She provides animal talent for print advertising, film, motion pictures and stage entertainment. Her skill in gaining the trust of the animals she works with and understanding of the people she teaches guides them to a high level of success.


Judy teaches animals utilizing the latest scientific research, which led to the creation, development and implementation of Trust Centered Training™. She is a a member of the Pet Professional Guild, she is a board Certified Pet Dog Trainer through the Certification Council of Professional Trainers, Graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy, Certified Canine Massage Therapist, a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, AKC Puppy S.T.A.R evaluator, a APDT C.L.A.S.S. instructor and evaluator, and the American Humane Educators Association.


In addition, Judy is the chairman of the PPG Canine Committee, and sits on the PPG Steering Committee. She also consults and provides educational support for several service dog and therapy dog programs. She founded the Missouri Disc Dog Club, and performing with her team at football half time shows, school, company functions, fairs and entertainment venues. Judy also works with schools to educate children how to prevent dog bites and how to be kind to their pets. She volunteers her time as a behavior consultant to rescue groups and shelters throughout Missouri and Illinois. Judy is a contributing writer for Pets Best Insurance, Tame Magazine, Tails Magazine, Angie's List, and Positively.
